What can we, the Portuguese, say about Portugal?
It’s such a small country by the sea, a land of brave man who discovered half of the world and brought together so many different cultures. It’s in the Portuguese people to receive foreigners and welcome them like they are part of the family.
It’s a peaceful country with a rich culture and where food brings people together. Sitting by a table on the north is different from the south. The flavours aren’t the same and even the colours are slightly different. The flavours are rich and show the many adventures the Portuguese people had all around the world. The fresh fish has a rich flavour and stands right beside the meat on the table. The portuguese sea is rich in many species but the “king” comes from far far away. Cod has a special taste in Portugal thanks to the conservation technique applied and is the traditional fish to be eaten on Christmas eve.
There are many festivities that you can celebrate, many of them religious even though the country doesn’t have an official religion. Each festival has its history and traditions that depend on each city.
Lisbon is the capital city and where may things happen. It’s a cosmopolitan city that never sleeps, much like Oporto has become in the past few years. Still there is much more to discover. From the beaches on the south to the amazing green mountains in the North. Portugal has landscapes for every taste and a good climate all year-round.
It’s impossible not to fall in love with this country, so small and so sweet, a place where deserts are full of flavour and almost impossible to resist.
